New Poll Watch 04 Study Contradicts Nader's Claim
He'll Help Beat Bush
(May 25, 2004 -- Mill Valley, CA) The Progressive
Unity Voter Fund today announced results of a
comprehensive study, “Poll
Watch 04: The Nader Effect,” which assesses
the impact of Ralph Nader’s presidential
campaign on the Kerry-Bush race. The study found
that of 37 polls conducted since Nader announced
his candidacy, 32 show that Nader directly helps
Bush, improving the President’s margin versus
Kerry. Four show no effect, and one, from Fox
News, shows a 1% tilt towards Kerry.
“This study shreds the assertion by the
Nader campaign that they will help beat Bush,”
said John Pearce, Executive Director of Progressive
Unity. “Facts are facts, and these findings
are overwhelming: Nader is directly helping Bush.”
The study’s release coincides with the Fund’s
“Ralph: Tell the Truth” email petition
drive, which calls on Nader to stop making the
claim that he’ll help defeat the President
in the face of the new polling analysis.
The Progressive Unity Voter Fund was sponsor
of the www.RalphDontRun.net
citizen initiative, a February internet campaign
that mobilized progressive voters to ask Mr. Nader
not to run for president in 2004. That campaign
drew 300,000 website visitors and reached 60 million
Americans in pervasive media coverage around Nader’s
candidacy announcement.
Additional information on the Poll Watch 04 study,
including sources and documentation for every
poll included in the study, is available on the
Fund’s new website www.DontVoteRalph.net.
